CVHWG has again successfully recruited a new physician!

It is with pleasure we announce that Dr. Jeremy Kass, having completed his Family Practice residency in New York this past year, will be relocating to Creston with his wife.

Dr. Kass has visited the community and met with our current physicians.  The sense that Creston would be a great choice for him was mutual.  Both he and his wife are very much looking forward to calling Creston "home"

Further details as to where he will be practicing are currently in discussion.  It is anticipated that information in this regard will be forthcoming within the next few weeks.  As soon as available, it will be posted both here and a notice will be in the Creston Valley Advance.

Cultivating Creston Action Planning Workshops (Round 2)

On October 14th and 15th, the Town of Creston and the Whistler Centre for Sustainability facilitated Round 2 - Cultivating Creston Action Planning at Kootenay Employment Services. Four innovative workshops were held over two-days to reconvene partner organizations and community members. The intent was to review and build on the actions identified two years ago in the Cultivating Creston Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP), also known as “Cultivating Creston”.

Over 30 local and regional partners from many sectors came together to identify and prioritize actions that could move the Town and the Creston Valley toward the shared vision of a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable community. Partners that were involved included: social service providers; local businesses; local farmers; the Creston Valley Food Action Coalition; the Creston Valley Chamber of Commerce; the Kootenay Employment Services; the Creston & District Community Centre; the Creston College of the Rockies, and the Creston Museum.

The workshops were composed of four groups: the first group was broadly focused on building Sustainable Communities, while the remaining groups were targeted to specific local themes including Age-Friendliness, Local Economy, and Food Security and Agriculture. The workshops used the success indicators created for Cultivating Creston to evaluate and measure whether these desired outcomes are being achieved. The workshops revealed that there have already been significant achievements made in each area. Examples include the launch of the Cultivating Creston brand; completion of the planning study for the farmers’ market; food waste pilot; launch of the Water Smart Program as well as the Valley Community Services’ Better at Home Program.

Following the review, measurements were then used to create a set of revised priority actions that will be captured in a companion report. The report will be used to help guide the partner organizations in the months and years ahead. Once the report has been completed it will be shared with community partners and made publically available.

Downtown Parking Posts

Notice something different about Creston’s downtown area? If you’ve had the pleasure of walking or driving downtown recently, you may have noticed the old parking meter tops are gone. In their place are some aesthetically pleasing decals on the parking meter poles, which clearly display the Town’s 2 hour free parking policy. Furthermore, with the poles still firmly planted in the pavement, drivers will know where to park and have a basic understanding of the parking space dimensions. This change will also serve as a helpful reminder to tourists and those unfamiliar with Creston’s parking policy, that parking is free for a defined period of time.

Have any comments, or questions about the changes? Feel free to call Town Hall at 250-428-2214 or email info@creston.ca. You can also pose your questions on Twitter (www.twitter.com/townofcreston) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/townofcrestonbc).

Town's 2013 Citizen Satisfaction Survey Results Now Online!

On November 20, 2013, the Town of Creston mailed out a Citizen Satisfaction Survey to 1000 randomly selected households in the Town. This was the second occasion in which the Town has conducted a Citizen Satisfaction Survey, with the first instance being in 2009. 21 of the 1000 surveys went ‘undelivered’ through the mail, leaving 979 that were successfully delivered to random Creston homeowners. 384 surveys were successfully returned to the Town of Creston, for a response rate of 39.2%, compared to 32.3% in 2009. The results were incredibly positive, showing significant increases in many categories. But don't take our word, we invite you to view the survey for yourself, HERE.

Telus Fibre Optic Network Coming to Creston!

TELUS and the Town of Creston are proud to partner on a project to bring the TELUS Fibre Optic Network to the Town; something that will benefit and strengthen the community. Many socio-economic opportunities will arise from having over 90% of homes, businesses and organizations able to connect to a fibre optic network. These opportunities include homes having access to the best entertainment (including Optik TV), businesses having access to the services they need to operate locally and compete globally, and service providers in areas such as health and education having the opportunity to innovate.

For more information, please visit the special website that has been created for this build program: www.telus.com/fibre OR www.telus.com/Creston. There is also a dedicated team at TELUS who are available to answer any questions and who may be contacted at 310-3427.
