Symbols from Creston’s Coat of Arms
The Arms:
The Shield is divided horizontally, with the upper half blue and the lower half white. The blue and white wavy bars in the base of the shield are a reference to Kootenay Lake. The two triangular figures recall the two mountain ranges.
The Crest:
A mountain caribou, with its hoof resting on a beer barrel, which represents the local economy. The mountain caribou are unique to this area of BC.
The Supporters:
Two trumpeter swans also adorn the coat of arms, in reference to the swans that pass through the valley on their migratory route. The Creston Valley has long been know as “the Valley of the Swans”.
The Badge:
The four feathers are a reference to the First Nations people. Arranged in the shape of the letter X, they represent the four elements: earth, air, fire and water.
