Utility Invoice Information

Annual Utilities Invoice

Utility services for properties within the Town of Creston are billed from January 1 to December 31 of each year.

Invoices are sent out in early January and payment is due before December 31: however, a 3% discount is given, if payment is received by January 31.

Payment can be made by mail, in person at Town Hall, through most financial institutions by telephone or internet banking.  Postmarks on mailed remittances are not accepted as date of payment.  Please ensure that the Town has received payment by 4:30 p.m. on the due date.

Secondary Suites

The Town of Creston has updated the Water and Sewer Rates Bylaws with respect to secondary suites in residential homes in an effort to make the rates more fair and equitable.  The updated Bylaw states that all secondary suites will be charged a fee equivalent to 50% of the single-family residential utility rate.

A secondary suite is defined as “a self-contained dwelling unit with its own kitchen and bathroom, which is separate from the principal dwelling in a house. It can be located either within the principal dwelling or in an accessory building on the same lot as the principal dwelling”.

We ask that all secondary suite owners whose secondary suites are not included on their annual utility bill report this information to the Town of Creston at 250-428-2214 or info@creston.ca by January 31st to avoid potential fines.

Please Note:  The Town will be actively identifying unreported secondary suites through information obtained from numerous sources such as social media advertising, websites, newspaper ads, inspections, etc.

Owners of Property with Secondary Suites

If your property contains a secondary suite that is NOT currently used as a separate residence and is not intended to be used as a separate residence for the current year, you must sign a waiver in order to only be charged the single family dwelling rate.  This waiver must be signed each year as long as the suite is not being used as a separate residence.  An inspection may be required to confirm the suite is not being used as a separate residence, before the billing charges will be adjusted.

If you have any questions or require a waiver in paper form, we will be able to assist you at Town Hall.
