[ARCHIVED] Council Meetings Returning to In-Person Attendance

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Creston has provided the means for public participation in regular Council and Committee of the Whole meetings by broadcasting them on the Webex platform in lieu of having the public physically attend the meetings. With the expiration of Ministerial Order No. M192 on September 29, 2021, in-person attendance for regular Council and Committee of the Whole meetings will resume in Town Hall, Council Chambers.

“The decision to broadcast Regular Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings, as authorized under Ministerial Order No. M192, was made to support the health and safety of our community, Council members and staff during this unprecedented time.  With the expiration of Ministerial Order No. M192 and the easing of restrictions for gatherings in Step 3 of BC’s Restart Plan, in-person attendance at Regular Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings will resume with capacity limits,” said Mayor Ron Toyota. “The Provincial Health Officer’s Order on Gatherings and Events specifies that only 50% of the seated operating capacity of our gallery may be present which means we can have up to seven members of the public attend in-person to watch the Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings.  Seating will be based on a first come, first serve basis.  If there is an agenda item that is of interest to a resident, they may phone or email Town Hall (250-428-2214 (ext. 210) or info@creston.ca) to request that a seat be reserved for them”, he added.

With the return to in person attendance, meetings will no longer be broadcasted on Webex.

Please note:

Pursuant to the Provincial Health Officer’s Order on Masks in Public Indoor Settings, masks are mandatory for members of the gallery in Council Chambers.

If you are experiencing any cold or flu like symptoms or are feeling unwell, please stay at home and do not attend the meeting.

Council and Committee of the Whole Agenda Packages are published the Friday preceding the Tuesday Meetings and are available for review here.

“Council extends our gratitude to the citizens of the Town of Creston, who have taken the time to virtually join Council and Committee Meetings over the last year.  We look forward to returning to in- person attendance, and sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” Toyota stated.
