UPDATE - The fire has been extinguished, but the area will be monitored for the next 24 hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Creston Landfill will return to normal hours of operation starting tomorrow - Saturday, June 11.

UPDATE - The air quality advisory for Creston has been rescinded due to the Creston Landfill fire. The potential for hazardous smoke is significantly reduced and caution in the area is no longer required. The fire is under control and contained, and expected to be completely extinguished shortly. The Landfill remains closed until further notice.

There is a fire at the Creston Landfill (1501 Mallory Road). Please be advised to avoid extended time outdoors in the area (walking, running, golfing, etc.) due to the potential of toxic fumes. The Landfill will be closed until further notice.
Emergency crews are on scene, and it is expected that the fire will take 4-6 hours to put out. Further information can be found on the RDCK's website here.
