Last night, the Creston Valley Fire Services, along with CP Rail and the BC Wildfire Service responded to a fire along the railroad tracks east of Canyon Lister Rd., approximately 1 km North East of the Canyon Bridge on the base of Thompson Mountain. The fire is mainly limited to railroad ties. At this time, there are no structures threatened. Fire Services spent the night ensuring that the fire stayed controlled.
Currently, Canyon-Lister Fire Department and the Creston Valley Fire Services continue to work onsite with support from BC Wildfire and CP Rail who are providing a helicopter and bucket lift with air and water support. Creston Valley Fire Services requests that you avoid the area to allow the crews to continue to work.
Additionally you may have received an alert from the Regional District of Central Kootenay last night regarding air quality issues due to the smoke and fuel sources from this fire. If you have respiratory concerns, please take precautions and remain indoors.
Further updates will be posted when they become available. Thank you to our firefighters and supporting organizations for their quick response and continued efforts.
