[ARCHIVED] Notice Re: Domestic Cat Concerns:

Staff is currently reviewing Animal Control Bylaw No. 1406, 1997 and Cat Control and Regulation Bylaw No. 1704, 2009, and until such time as Council has had an opportunity to consider the results of this review process, the following action was taken by Council at its April 21st, 2015 Council Meeting:
“THAT enforcement of Cat Control and Regulation Bylaw No. 1704, 2009, is suspended immediately, with the exception of licencing requirements for domestic cats and complaints that directly involve feral cat issues, until such time as the current review of Animal Control Bylaw No. 1406, 1997 and Cat Control and Regulation Bylaw No. 1704, 2009 is complete and Council has considered the results of that review.”

During this interim suspension of enforcement with respect to domestic cats, residents with domestic cat problems have been asked to find other means at their disposal to remedy the frequent nuisance of “at large” cats on their property. One solution has been the introduction of a non-toxic formula of granulated material primarily consisting of black pepper oil. The material comes in a 1KG container and is sprinkled on the areas where cats are known to frequent and deters them from staying. This product and others like it (i.e. Chemfree Critter Ridder, Green Earth Animal Repellent) can be purchased at your local hardware store at minimal cost.

Thank you for your understanding in this regard.
