[ARCHIVED] RDCK Media Release - Hazardous House Hold Round-Up 2017 - September 23, 2017 from 10am to 2pm

2017 hazardous Waste Notice

Hazardous Household Waste Round-Up 2017:

Look for an event near your community!

NELSON – It’s that time of year again! Check your shed, garage, basement and under your sink for those hazardous materials that cannot be taken to the landfill or recycling depots. The Regional District of Central Kootenay is holding its annual Hazardous Household Waste Round-up events and accepting your old oil, paint, pesticides, cleaners, chemicals and other toxic materials. These six events offer free disposal for RDCK residents and the opportunity to make sure hazardous waste is managed safely. Don’t forget to bring a donation for your local food bank as well. The events are for residential household waste only, industrial and commercial waste will not be accepted.

“The round-up program is valued by residents and well-used every year,” says RDCK Joint Resource Recovery Committee Chair Tom Newell. “Providing an environmentally responsible method to handle household hazardous waste is an important RDCK service.” Many areas of the district lack proper full-time depots to dispose of the accepted materials, such as oil.
