[ARCHIVED] MEDIA RELEASE - TOWN OF CRESTON - CANADA DAY FIREWORKS - CANCELLED (June 29, 2015)

This notice is to inform the public that, due to the Ministry of Forests’ recent fire ban in the area, the Creston and District Community Complex fireworks display scheduled for the Canada Day celebration on Wednesday, July 1st has been cancelled. All other Canada Day festivities, scheduled to take place at the Creston and District Community Complex and other locations, will still proceed as planned.
“We understand the fireworks cancellation is disappointing; however, with the extreme heat in the short and long term forecast for this area, it is imperative that all precautions are taken to keep our community and citizens safe” said Mayor Ron Toyota.
For further information on the current fire ban, please see the Ministry of Forests Information Bulletin at http://www.bcwildfire.ca; or contact Creston Fire Rescue at 250-428-2214 regarding the cancellation of the Canada Day fireworks.
The fireworks display will be re-scheduled for a later date this year dependant on fire ban restrictions.
Mayor Toyota stated “On behalf of Council and the Creston Valley Spirit Committee, the Town of Creston thanks everyone for their understanding and cooperation”.
