Creston, BC – May 26, 2020: This week, is Tourism Week in British Columbia. What is typically a season of travel and exploration, is going to look a little bit different this year. However, the Creston Valley is perfect for exploration and a staycation. Local restaurants and cafes are working hard to open under the guidance provided by the Provincial Health Officer, offering an array of food that suits any palate. The Creston Valley Farmer’s Market runs every Saturday, filled with food products harvested right in our backyard. The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area, offers incredible bird watching, walking, and immense natural beauty. B.C.’s tourism industry is integral to our social, cultural, environmental and economic well being. This summer we have an opportunity to enjoy our Province and our home. Town of Creston Council and staff encourages Creston Valley residents to support the hospitality and tourism sector in B.C. and in our own backyard.
COVID-19 Testing: Dr. Nerine Kleinhans, Chief of Staff at Creston Valley Hospital, reminds us to call 250 254-2055 to arrange a time to get a COVID-19 test if you have any respiratory symptoms. “You do not need a doctor’s referral. We have to keep testing anyone with symptoms - it’s the only way we can identify positive cases, and start contact tracing” she stated today in her community Facebook update. B.C.’s COVID-19 testing strategy was expanded to include anyone with cold, influenza or COVID-19-like symptoms, regardless of how mild. The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses, including the flu and common cold. However, not everyone needs to be tested. Interior Health notes that COVID-19 testing is not recommended for individuals without symptoms. To learn how to book an appointment for a COVID-19 test and for a complete list of testing centres in the Interior Health Region please visit: https://news.interiorhealth.ca/news/testing-information/ If you have questions or feel that you may need to be tested, contact your family doctor or phone HealthLink BC 811.
