Current and Recent Capital Projects

Downtown Revitalization Phase 2
The Town of Creston has been proudly working towards improving the ambience within the Town's downtown core and creating a meeting place for the community. Currently crews are working on Phase 2 of the project which, involves removal of existing sidewalk, replacement with stamped coloured concrete, topped with a slip resistant coating at intersections, new ornamental streetlights, street furniture, landscaping and improvements to crosswalks from 10th Avenue (not including the intersection) to 15th Avenue.

Canyon Street has been designed with curb extensions that provide space for landscaping at intersections to slow vehicle speeds by narrowing traffic lanes and reduce pedestrian crossing distances, decreasing the amount of time pedestrians spend in the roadway. Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to be completed by October 2009 with minimal disruption to Downtown stores.

Cavell Street
Town crews have completed the new concrete sidewalk along the north side of Cavell Street, from 9th Avenue to Northwest Boulevard and landscape restoration will commence in September/October 2009. Phase 2 of Cavell Street upgrades is currently in the design stage prior to Council approval. This project involves road and drainage improvements from 9th Avenue to 10th Avenue and includes the intersection at Cavell Street and 10th Avenue.

16th Sidewalk
In September 2009 Town crews will commence installation of a concrete sidewalk on the west side of 16th Avenue from the hospital to Scott Street. The Town applied for a Localmotion grant through the Ministry of Community Development and funding was approved in the amount of $117,450.00. This project is being funding through a cost shared program between the Town and the Ministry.

Infrastructure Master Plans
Recently the Town of Creston solicited Request for Proposals from qualified firms for the development of a Sanitary Sewer Master Plan, Water Master Plan and GPS Survey - Storm Drain Manholes to identify areas of deficiencies, phased upgrading options and cost estimates to manage and maintain strategies to develop a sustainable utility system.

The following is a list of the successful bidders:
Sanitary Sewer Master Plan - Dayton and Knight
Water Master Plan - Associated Engineering
GPS Survey - Storm Drain Manholes - Focus Engineering

These projects will commence by the end of August with scheduled completion by December 2009.
