News Release - New Schikurski Park to Glaser Trail Connection

The Town of Creston is excited to move forward with a new 200-metre trail connecting Schikurski Park to the Glaser Trail. This new link will make it safer, easier, and more enjoyable for people to walk and bike between two of the community’s popular outdoor spaces.

Currently, there is no legal public route connecting Schikurski Park to the Glaser Trail. This project will create a permanent, publicly accessible connection using Town-owned land, opening up a new and reliable way for residents and visitors to enjoy both areas.

“This project is all about making it safer and easier for people to get around and enjoy the outdoors,” said Mayor DeBoon.

The trail is part of the Town’s Trails Master Plan and supports the Official Community Plan, which encourages stronger connections, healthy living, and active transportation options like walking and cycling. As an important community hub, Schikurski Park will be more directly linked to nearby neighbourhoods through this new connection.

“This is the kind of project that makes a real difference in people’s daily lives,” the Mayor added. “It helps connect our community to nature, recreation, and each other in a simple and lasting way.”

Construction is expected to begin this summer and, once underway, will take about one month to complete, depending on weather and site conditions. The Creston Valley Rotary Club is leading construction, with support from the Creston Valley Trails Society.

The trail will be built as an urban-style gravel pathway designed for walking, cycling, and accessibility for mobility aids such as wheelchairs and strollers. Construction work will include brush clearing, minor grading, installation of ground cloth, and the placement and compaction of gravel to create a durable surface that can be enjoyed year-round.

This new connection will help build a more complete trail network in Creston, giving residents and visitors a safer, friendlier, and more enjoyable way to explore the community outdoors. The Town is pleased to see this trail become another valued part of Creston’s growing active transportation and recreation network.
