The Town of Creston is excited to announce that Phase 2 of the ʔak̓uǂni (Akoothnee) project has begun, bringing this important community space one step closer to completion.
The first stage of construction will focus on improvements around the Armitage Building. New gathering spaces will be created at both the front and back entrances, giving people more places to meet, relax, and connect. Planned features include pergolas, shade sails, water misters, and other outdoor amenities designed to make the space more comfortable and welcoming.
“Projects like this help create vibrant public spaces that connect people, attract visitors and support local businesses to grow,” said Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth. “We are pleased to support the Town of Creston in creating a more welcoming and accessible gathering places for residents and visitors. Through our Look West strategy, we will continue to invest in communities across B.C. to strengthen local economies and ensure people have access to the infrastructure and opportunities they need to thrive.”
During construction, access to the building will be affected at times. To reduce disruptions, only one entrance will be impacted at a time, and the other entrance will remain open.
The project team will work closely with building users throughout construction to ensure safe access and keep everyone informed as work moves forward. Signs will be posted whenever needed to help guide visitors during temporary changes.
ʔak̓uǂni (Akoothnee) is an important investment in our community, creating a welcoming space where people can gather, learn, and connect. We are excited to see construction get underway and to bring this vision to life.
