This year, we’re shaking things up and making our Municipal Open House much more exciting than ever before! We're calling it Community Connect and it's happening on Wednesday, June 4 from 4 to 7 PM at ʔak̓uǂni (formerly Market Park), and it’s going to be packed with fun, games, and hands-on experiences for all ages!
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store:
Take the Night off From Cooking!
The Creston Valley Youth Network has you covered with free hot dogs hot off the grill. Come enjoy a tasty bite and a break from making dinner—while supplies last!
Meet the Heroes
Get up close to real emergency vehicles and meet the firefighters and police officers who keep our community safe. We’ll have kid-sized costumes so your little ones can dress up and snap photos next to their favorite vehicles—or even beside a real-life hero.
Get Hands-On with Public Works
For the future builders and truck lovers in your family, we’ve got high-vis gear to try on and big vehicles from Public Works to explore. Plus, the Planning Department is bringing a giant car mat with roads and building blocks—kids can build their own community or drive tiny fleet vehicles around town.
Say Hello to Mayor and Council
Ever wanted to ask a question, share an idea, or just meet your local leaders? Now’s your chance. Mayor and Council will be at their own table throughout the event, ready to connect with you in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Bubble Boogie, Face Painting and Dance Party
We’re bringing the party with a live DJ and a whole lot of bubbles. This is the perfect zone for toddlers, preschoolers, and any kid who loves to dance, jump, and twirl in a cloud of floating fun. Parents, you’re welcome to join in, too. Oh, and there will be FREE face painting!
Yard Games and Speed Challenges
Think you’ve got game? Prove it with giant Yard Pong, Mega Jenga, and more. Then test your speed with our radar sign challenge—can you run faster than your seven-year-old? There’s only one way to find out.
Learn the Story of the Tipi
We’re honoured to welcome Robin Louie, who will be near the tipi to share its history, how it was made, and the cultural significance behind it. If you haven’t met Robin before, you’re in for a real treat — he’s an incredible storyteller with deep roots in the land, culture, and traditions of the Creston Valley.
Vote for Summer Fun
Kids will get their own ballot and the chance to vote for one of three awesome summer activities: an Ice Cream Bar, a Mobile Arcade Pop-Up, or a Picnic in the Park. Whichever idea wins, we’ll make it happen this summer. It’s a fun way to introduce young ones to the power of voting—and it comes with a sweet reward!
But Wait—There's More!
We’ve got even more fun in store, but it’s just too much to list here. Swing by and see for yourself what other games and surprises we’ve got planned!
Community Connect is free and open to everyone. Whether you’re coming for the trucks, the games, the music, or just some meaningful conversations, we can’t wait to see you there. Every department from the Town of Creston will be there! Bring your family, your questions, your dancing shoes—and let’s connect, Creston!
