Following the departure of Jared Riel from the Town of Creston, Laura Dodman has been appointed Interim Fire Chief. Laura brings extensive experience in fire services, emergency response, and departmental leadership, and will provide continuity and stability for Creston Valley Fire Rescue during this transition period. The Town of Creston wishes Jared all the best in his future endeavours.
About Laura Dodman
Laura Dodman has been a dedicated member of Creston Valley Fire Department since 1998, beginning her career as a Paid-on-Call firefighter. Through her commitment to public safety and leadership, she progressed through the ranks, serving as Lieutenant, Captain, and most recently Assistant Fire Chief.
With extensive experience in emergency response, firefighter training, and department operations, Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her role as Interim Fire Chief. She is committed to ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality fire and emergency services to the residents of Creston and surrounding communities.
There will be no changes to service levels, operations, or emergency response capabilities as a result of this leadership transition.
In the coming weeks, the Town will begin a recruitment process for a new Director of Protective Services. This senior management position is responsible for the overall management and operation of Creston Valley Fire Department, including the Town's fire service and its three rural fire stations located in Wynndel, Canyon, and West Creston. The role also provides leadership for Emergency Management Creston, the Town's emergency management program, as well as climate readiness and community resilience initiatives.
