About the Election
The next General Local Election will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, providing eligible voters in the Town of Creston with the opportunity to elect their local representatives for a four-year term. In Creston, electors will vote to fill the positions of one (1) Mayor, six (6) Councillors, and one (1) School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Trustee representing the municipality.
General local elections are held every four years and allow residents and non-resident property electors to choose the individuals who will make decisions on behalf of the community. Locally elected officials are responsible for setting strategic direction, establishing policies and bylaws, approving budgets, and helping guide the future growth and well-being of the community.
For residents interested in running for office, candidates must meet eligibility requirements established by provincial legislation, including being at least 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, and a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before filing nomination papers.
